Extra YouTube

This is the video I found and wanted to post on my blog. I have an interest in music history and thought the content of this video was inspirational.

2 Corinthians 9:14:15 And in their prayers for you their hearts will go out to you, because of the surpassing grace God has given you. Thanks be to God for his indescribable gift!
Ephesians 1:6-8 ...to the praise of his glorious grace, which he has freely given us in the One he loves. In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God's grace that he lavished on us with all wisdom and understanding.

Week 10: #23

Yea! I think that with this post I have fulfilled all the exercises. I have learned about the existance of some technology that I was not aware of. It's forced me to go beyond my comfort zone. That is good! The favorite discoveries was Zoho, LibraryThing and the downloadable media. What I learned today will be changing tomorrow. Just like life, technology goes on.
The frustrating parts to this training:
1. those times when I have thought "I don't understand this! I just need to get on with this so I can move on to the things that can help me accomplish the things that really need to be done."
2. the fact that this has taken a lot more time than the ten hours of training that is being credited to each of the participants.
3. the open lab that I drove to and spent a good portion of my day off was of no help at all. The individuals that were assigned to help were more interested in getting their own twenty-three things accomplished than helping the ones that came for help. I went clueless to the open lab, and I left clueless and angry.
I know that everyone who helped put this program together spent an awful lot of time on making these training hours available. Thanks for your additional time that you spent.

Week 9: #22 (The end is in sight!!!)

I found that HCPL has a lot more titles available than the other sites. I definitely found a number of titles that I would be interested in downloading once the MP3 on my Christmas wishlist has been fulfilled. I tried searching for an author I enjoy, Diane Mott-Davidson, but I did not find any titles. HCPL has very few of her titles available in audiobooks. and many of the titles available are not in unabridged format, so I was hoping that I could find the titles in the downloadable option.

Week 9: #21

I didn't really know what to expect from podcasts so I looked around and found a mugglecast, but also a more helpful, as far as library usage possibilities, that explores classic American literature, http://americanlitreview.audioblog.com/rss/americanliteraturereview.xml
I also learned that if you have a favorite NPR program that you simply can't miss & it will ruin your day if you miss it. You can use this technology method to subscribe to it and listen later. I'm going to make sure my son-in-love knows about this.

Week 9: #20

You are right you can find most anything. I felt badly about viewing anything for any length of time because of the slow-down that it causes. I did find a clip that I hope to post to my blog but at this time I felt I didn't have the time to create an account and then figure out how to post it. I will try to complete that task at a quieter internet usage time.

Week 8: #19

Wow! I had no idea that anything like Zoho existed. No downloading, just access the internet and complete that document. I imported a staff calendar that I've been working on but I have not been able to complete. Reasons: too many distractions and the calendar is in "my documents" on my personal work log on. I can now work on this at home, at the circulation staff computers, wherever I can connect to internet and whenever time allows.
I'm also going to save some of my files at home just in case the inevitable happens and my hard-drive crashes on my ten year old T-Rex. Oh! I mean my ten year old computer. I will now have my files backed-up in cyberspace. This is just too easy!

Week 6: #13

I read the info on the habits of Del.icio.us users and the beginner's guide to Del.icio.us. My head is sort of swimming! (maybe it's the hour of the day or the amount of time I've been sitting in front of my home computer) I could watch the video but choose not to do that right now because my speaker on my home computer is shot (maybe that should be on my wishlist for Christmas). I'll have to watch the 8 minute tutorial video at work. (Sorry co-workers and customers, your computers will be slowing down the next time I have a chance to get back to this exercise at work.)
When I linked into the HCPL Del.icio.us account for reference resource, I discovered I could spend many a day reading, and clicking and reading, and click and reading... One can get lost in it all!
Did you see the incentives offered by PLCMCL? WOW!!! I think I would have worked a little harder to complete these 23 things.
I'm not a real big web-surfer (although having arrived at the gift-giving season I intend to use it more), but I can see how handy this could be for someone involved in research on a daily basis.

Week 6: #14 Technorati

I can really consume a lot of time with this (I'd rather be reading a book). While exploring in the tag search for the term Library 2.0, I found the blog of "Pagemaster". I haven't looked at the iHCPL participant list for this individual but after reading this blog, I expect to find "Pagemaster" on the list.
When I searched with the term "Learning 2.0", I found all kinds of areas of interest represented. I preferred limiting my search to the Library search, although, libraries were represented in my "learning" searches.
I decided not to tag my own blog.
NOTE: I didn't find "Pagemaster" so I went back to the blog and found out that the individual is a librarian in Australia. Pretty cool!

Week 7: #18 Social networking

Both my kids have accounts with myspace. I can see where this would be handy for keeping up and catching up with friends that one might not see often. I also viewed infieldparking, I thought it might be a baseball lovers network but instead it was a racecar lovers network. The ratemyspace.hgtv network was pretty cool. Can't afford the professional decorator? Try this social network and get a few ideas.

Week 6: #15 Library 2.0

Change has been going on from the beginning of time.
Genesis 1:14 And God said, "Let there be lights in the expanse of the sky to separate the day from the night, and let them serve as signs to mark seasons and days and years,
Genesis 8:22 "As long as the earth endures, seedtime and harvest, cold and heat, summer and winter, day and night will never cease."
Without change, life would get rather boring and tedious. Sure change is difficult at times but GET OVER IT! I feel that HCPL is really making an effort to meet the needs of all generations, even the Millennial Generation (those born between 1984 and 2002, and own the world of technology).
I read all the articles from this section, in addition to a number of others, but "Away from Icebergs" spoke more to me and I was reminded of a video that was offered for training hours at our branch last year. I can't remember the exact title but it made reference to the library being like the ever-changing course of a mighty river, that video made me look at change in the library in a very different way.
Change is not a bad thing, but change is needful for we humans. Getting used to change requires some of us a little more time than others.
Library 2.0 is a term that has been created to describe the ever-changing library that is striving to meet the needs of an ever-changing community in an ever-changing world. The library system that existed when I began working for HCPL, no longer exists. Technology has made it necessary for us to change. If we had not made the changes we would be like an 8-track stereo cassette in the twenty-first century. Does anyone in the millennial generation know what that was?
I am glad for this:
Malachi 3:6 "I the LORD do not change. Numbers 23:19 God is not a man, that he should lie, nor a son of man, that he should change his mind. Does he speak and then not act? Does he promise and not fulfill? James 1:17Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.

Week 4: #8 Really simple w/RSS

I have just now finished subscribing to ten of the top 200 most popular feeds. However, somehow I have already received my bling for RSS. I don't know how this happened because I have also received something from the Washington Post and New York Times through my work email and I never would have used my work email to receive these feeds. Could you please double check to see why I am receiving emails from these feeds and why I have received bling for an exercise that I have not completed? Also, do you suppose I should have received credit for another exercise and got RSS credit in its place.?

Week 5: #12 Library Elf

HCPL does all the things for me that this service does. HCPL informs me by email that my requests are waiting to be picked up, that my items will be due in a few days and that my items are overdue. I can see that this would be helpful if you had a number of cards to oversee or maintain. Although, I would probably be hesitant to use this service because of privacy reasons.

Week 5 #11 Library Thing

I will definitely tell my son and his wife about "Library Thing". Between the two of these avid readers, they need a way to catalog all the books that they have. Would this normally cost something for the general public? Thanks to Beth Kripple from ATA for walking me through the posting of my library book covers on my blog. I and several other staff members from BC could never have done it without you, Beth. Thanks. You are one special lady!

Week 7: #17

Cell phones are fabulous and are very helpful!

Technology is not a priority of mine. I feel personal contact and relationships are much more worthy of my time.

Week 7: #16

I didn't realize the Wikipedia was a wiki. I guess with the "pedia" at the end I expected it to be more of an encyclopedia. I definitely won't be using that again, I'm usually looking for truth. I added my blog address on the ihcpl wiki, as well as, making a comment under favorite animals. A wiki that I think would be helpful to our library is a wiki like the book lovers wiki with all of the book reviews. I enjoyed reading through some of the reviews and will probably read some of the books mentioned. "All your words are true; all your righteous laws are eternal." Ps 119:160

Week 3: #6

I enjoyed browsing through some of the trips available on the trip planner of yahoo travel. It gave me a wishlist of future travels. "So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal." 2 Corinthians 4:18

Week 3 exercise 6

Flickr color fields was interesting to play with. Each degree of color you clicked on would bring up multiple photos of things that were that color. I could use that to build my photo library in flickr. "Great are the works of the LORD; they are pondered by all who delight in them." Psalm 111:2

Week 5 exercise 10

Yahoo! AvatarsIt posted! Just a country girl at heart and I would definitely rather be outside than in. "Your love, O LORD, reaches to the heavens, your faithfulness to the skies. Your righteousness is like the mighty mountains, your justice like the great deep." Psalm 36:5

Week 5: Exercise 10

I played with avatar at http://avatars.yahoo.com/ and used the tabs such as appearance, hairstyles, apparel and changed the color of eyes and hair. It was fun but the image was definitely a 40 year younger version of myself. I saved the image changes but I never could figure out how to post the image on this blog. "For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future." Jeremiah 29:11

On-line security

I don't feel comfortable posting anything about myself, my life or my family.

"Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourself, look not only to your own interests but to the interests of others." Philippians 2:3-4
